16,000 primers

A friend of mine has been searching for primers, and hit one LGS today just to find out that they received a shipment of 16,000 primers, but all were gone by mid afternoon.
some one called in and took them over the phone with a CC and drove 100 miles to gather them up.
this reminds me of the late 70's the high school shop teacher advised everyone who would listen to buy primers and store them in ammo cans.
I made pocket money from him by picking up the 20mm ammo cans when I found them and reselling them to him at a $1 profit for his storing needs.

Isn't storing primers in an ammo can sort of like asking for a grenade like explosion?

I would opt for a nice giving plastic medium, while still being airtight/watertight.

Mil ammo cans are good to go. There is nothing better for long term storage/safety.

no problem with primers. powder on the other hand should be able to burn through the container without building up pressure.

store mine all loose in a one gallon glass mayonaise jar. just reach in a nd grab a fat handful for a reloading session.

The Cabela's plastic ammo cans would probably be a good choice for the reason you note. Same with MTM.

I had always read that ammo cans were good to go for either powder or primers.
I read
Quote:

GI ammo cans are designed in such a way that the lid seal will melt, or the latch will spring open enough to prevent a closed container explosion in the event of a fire.
So have always kept mine in ammo cans for over 12 years now.
Of course they are in separate cans
